Men’s Ice Hockey Ties on the Road

Last weekend, the Colgate men’s ice hockey team recorded two ties, ending both in overtime 4-4 versus the Clarkson University Golden Knights and 3-3 versus the St. Lawrence University Saints.

On Friday, February 1 at Clarkson, the Raiders managed the first tie of the weekend. First-year Spencer Finney manned the goal for the entire game, making a total of

23 saves.

Colgate scored within the first minutes of the first period, a power play goal at 2:47 shot by first-year Kyle Baun and assisted by first-year Tylor Spink and senior captain Jeremy Price. The remainder of the first period saw no additional goals by either team.

The second period began with two goals by the Golden Knights, the first at 1:27 and the second, at 15:53, during a Colgate penalty kill. In the final seconds, at 19:43, the Raiders had another power play goal to tie up the game. The goal was shot by sophomore Joe Wilson and assisted by senior Robbie Bourdon.

Clarkson scored again during the first minutes of the third period. Ten minutes later, at 13:59, first-year Mike Borkowski scored, assisted by first-year Darcy Murphy and senior captain Nathan Sinz. This was Borkowski’s first collegiate goal. At 18:06, the Raiders shot their fourth and final goal, by junior Mike McCann and assisted by sophomore Daniel Gentzler and first-year Kevin Lough.

The next evening, Saturday, February 2, the Raiders competed at St. Lawrence University. Once again, Finney served in goal for the entire game, making 25 saves. The first period was unfortunate for Colgate, as the Saints scored twice.

The second period began with a power play goal at 5:57 by Murphy, assisted by Price and senior captain Thomas Larkin. However, St. Lawrence answered with a third goal

at 12:16.

Two minutes and 13 seconds into the third period, first-year Tyson Spink made an unassisted goal. The rest of the period was uneventful until 16:56, at which sophomore John Lidgett made Colgate’s third goal,

assisted by Larkin and Wilson.

The Raiders have two home games this upcoming weekend. On Friday, February 8 at 7 p.m., Colgate will host the Princeton University Tigers, and on Saturday, February 9 at 7 p.m., the Quinnipiac
