Hamilton Library Celebrates Customer Appreciation Week

Hamilton Library is currently celebrating its fifth annual “Cus-tomer Appreciation Week” with a variety of activities, classes and services open to the public.

“We’re holding receptions for the many volunteers that work at the library,” Director of the Hamilton Public Library Barb Coger said, who will retire in the fall after 25 years of work at the library.

The main events of the week are a tax service, where a tax con-sultant is available by reservation to assist with and look over tax documents for free, and free com-puter classes for both groups and individuals about any elements of the computing process.

In addition, children’s storytime had record turnout this week.

“There were 26 kids plus their parents. Usually we have 10 or 12 people total,” Coger said.

The library has also begun offering computer skills classes for individuals with all levels of experience.

“It’s through a grant from the Mid-York Library system. We were one out of 43 libraries in the system that got it, and we have five new laptops in addi-tion to the five desktops we al-ready have as a result. We’re also having a couple of classes on Madison Lane,” Coger said.

The week coincides with sev-eral of the library’s scheduled events. Currently the library is hosting its eighth community art exhibit with local art chosen from nearly 40 entries that will be displayed around the library for several weeks. Also, Hamil-ton Fortnightly, a group of wom-en who meet and present papers on topics they are interested in, will be giving presentations on famous women, and there will be a “Writer’s Speakout” of writers presenting original work later in the week.

Hamilton Public Library has undergone major changes in re-cent years. It underwent a major renovation 11 years ago which has allowed them to hold bigger events, and this year has launched a new website at midyorklib.org/ wp/hamilton. Customer Appreci-ation week will continue through Saturday, April 7.
