Field Hockey Toppled by Bucknell in Last Game of the Season Loses Footing in Third Double-Overtime T

In a heartbreaking ending to a long season, the Colgate field hockey team fell to Bucknell in a 1-0 double overtime decision on Senior Day at home.

Both teams opened up offensive opportunities in the first half of the game, but neither was able to capitalize for a point. Colgate saw four chances on penalty corners. Junior Adriana Libutti found herself in front of a wide-open net after classmate Lauren Dittman passed off a corner. To the Raiders’s dismay, she pushed the shot wide and both teams remained scoreless. In the second half, the Raiders earned three consecutive corners, but the Bucknell goal keeper was able to make two impressive stops.

Entering into the first overtime, first-year keeper Amanda DiDomizio was determined to protect the goal and tallied a few saves to keep the Bison at bay.

With the score still knotted at 0-0, the teams entered the second overtime looking surprisingly fresh and hungry for the win. The Colgate team felt a special duty to bring home the win for seniors Peyton Hawkins and Sarah Hill in their last game at Tyler’s Field. It was Bucknell, however, that secured the first offensive opportunity when a Bison pushed a pass down the goal line that flew by several Colgate defenders. A second Bucknell player knocked it down the center of the circle and quickly turned it around to put the shot past a desperate outstretched leg of DiDomizio. The game capped at 1-0 in favor of the Bison.

Saturday’s game marked Colgate’s ninth one-goal game of the season and sixth overtime tilt. It was the third to go into double overtime. Dittman led the team with a total of over five shots on offense while DiDomizio protected the Colgate net from eight, including two saves at the end of the second regulation half to push the teams into their first overtime.
