The Colgate field hockey team went 1-1 on the road this weekend as it lost to Bryant on Saturday and defeated Brown the following Sunday afternoon.

Colgate saw six saves from first-year goalkeeper Amanda DiDomizio, earned a 13-12 advantage in shots and came out on top in penalty corners with an 11-6 margin over Bryant. Even still, they were unable to close the deal and walked off the field with a 4-0 shutout on the books.

Bryant took the lead early on at the 11:00 mark on a penalty stroke goal. Colgate initially blocked the shot, but the Bulldogs got a second chance thanks to a Raider foul. Bryant was able to score for a second time shortly after when DiDomizio made a stop but was unable to rebound. For a second time, Bulldog Rosie Bird was able to find the back of the Colgate net.

With just under six minutes in the half, the Raiders tried to hold Bryant off. Despite their efforts, the lead was increased to 3-0 when another Bulldog player scored on a second chance after a penalty corner.

Going into the second half trailing 3-0, the Raiders were determined to make a comeback, but Bryant was able to increase their lead 4-0 at the 20:31 mark. Colgate made a strong effort to fight its way back with seven shots and seven corners in the second half, but was rejected every time. The game ended in a shutout.

Sunday afternoon was a very different story for the Raiders. Colgate jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when, only 2:18 into the half, sophomore standout Olivia Nab­han dribbled into the circle and shot into the right corner to find the back of the net. The Raiders had a second scoring oppor­tunity at the 13:14 mark, but the ball just missed the goal as it bounced off the post.

The teams continued to trade shots with eight apiece with DiDomizio recording four saves in the first half.

Brown came out strong with a goal in the first minute of the second half to tie the game at one, but Nabhan gave the Raiders a second boost with 20:15 left in the game. Junior Kendall Zaharris recorded an assist on the goal after she fed Nabhan the ball, crossing it from the right side. Colgate pushed through to take the 3-1 advantage when sophomore Halle Biggar scored her third goal of the season off a penalty corner.

With only 3:23 left in the game, the Bears cut the Colgate lead to just one, but the Raiders still walked away with the 3-2 win at the end of the day.

Colgate will be back in action at home on Saturday at 11 a.m. when it faces off against Lafayette and then on Tuesday when it travels to Cornell. The game in Ithaca is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
