The Fingerprints of God

Hey, can I talk to you for a second? Alright, so I think I know you fairly well. I know about your family, your interests and your plans for the future. We’ve talked about a lot of things. But I want to know something more. There is so much more to you than what you’re letting on.

How do I know? Well, because sometimes when I am with you this thing happens. You don’t realize it happens. You never do. It’s hard to describe. It’s like a veil is lifted, your face lights up, and, though I am looking at the same girl I’ve seen so many times, you look different; more beautiful. And for that second my heart aches. For a moment, you totally overwhelm me. What is it about you that can make me feel like this?

Then this thought comes flooding in and it makes me want to cry: It is an artist’s touch I see. I sense his grace, his love and his beauty when I look at you. You are covered with the fingerprints of God. I see them in a smile, in a word, in a shy glance. It’s different for every girl. But in every girl they are there.

When I see them I feel this deep longing to fight for you, to free you, to help you find your story and live it! I want to get up and dance with you. But how can I let you know about all this? My tongue is tied, I freeze up and you go on your way. And here I am. No matter what I do, you remain a mystery to me. Who will be the bold, strong, daring one who will fight for you? Reveal this wonderful, beautiful mystery of you?

Gosh, you are beautiful. And you deserve a hero.

What if I told you that there is one who knows you better than your father, mother, brothers, sisters and your best friend? One who has said, “Delight in me, and I will give you the desires of your heart.” One who wants to give you everything you’ve ever wanted. Would you want to meet him?

I know his name. His name is Glorious. His name is Beautiful. His name is Jesus. He is the love you were made to know, and have longed for your entire life. He thought you were worth dying for. And for today and on every day for the rest of your life, he is gently whispering, “My darling! You are so beautiful. More than you can ever know. For you are the work of my own hands.”

As for me, I’ll love you in every way I know how because I care about you, I really do. The story of your heart is unspeakably precious, and I think it is one of God’s greatest gifts to men. It is worth fighting for. But I know that the real battle for your heart has already been fought!

Before this world came to be, you were chosen as the Princess of a true, everlasting lover. How do I know this? Because you are absolutely covered with the fingerprints of God. Happy Valentine’s Day!
