Rowing Competes and Head of the Fish

On Monday, October 26, the Colgate men’s and women’s rowing teams traveled to Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs to compete in the Head of the Fish.

 

The Raiders performed well in their second race of the season, placing fourth and seventh in the men’s varsity four race, as well as seventh in the men’s varsity eight race. The men’s four was made up of sophomore coxswain May Bayer, junior James Clinton, junior Sam Walker, senior Marc Cassone and junior Matthew Woodrow, and finished with a time of 12:40.27, missing third place by only 5 hundredths of a second. The race was won by WPI with a time of 12:09.89. The Williams A and B team’s rounded out the top three. The men’s B boat, made up of coxswain Grace Goodwin, sophomore Robbie Bickhart, first-year Bryan Ferguson, first-year Owen Myers and sophomore Kenley Unruh, also competed in the men’s four race, finishing seventh with a final time of 12:54.94. The men’s team also raced in the novice eight race, finishing a very respectable seventh out of 27 teams with a final time of 12:05.67. Syracuse’s A team clocked in at 10:58.15, winning the men’s novice eight finals. The men’s rowing team will be back in competition soon, when they travel to Syracuse on Halloween for the Syracuse Invitational.

The women’s team also posted strong finishes at the Head of the Fish. In the women’s 2x final, Colgate’s A,B and C boats placed second, third and fourth with times of 15:24.39, 15:28.91 and 15:37.22, respectively. In the women’s 4x final, the Raiders placed third with a time of 14:44.56. The women’s team placed particularly well in the women’s eight final, in which they finished fourth out of 29 teams with a final time of 13:52.95.

The women’s team will join the men’s team on Halloween when they head to Syracuse for the Syracuse Invitational.
