The Colgate women’s lacrosse team kept its current hot streak rolling last weekend, preserving its undefeated Patriot League record with a come-from-behind 14-12 win over Bucknell. After a back-and-forth first half, the Raiders found themselves down 9-7 going into the second period in desperate need of some defensive stops. With a little under 17 minutes left in the game, the Raiders began to show why they are currently the top dog of the Patriot League. Down 12-9 at that point, the Raiders tightened up their defense and kept Bucknell scoreless for the rest of the game. Meanwhile, the offense would respond with five unanswered goals in the last 15 minutes, including two from senior Lindsay Pittard and a Molly Carroll goal with four seconds left on the clock that sealed the deal.

“Early in the second half we just knew we had to go on a run and get back in the game,” first-year Kate Bergstrom said. “We realized we were in better shape than them and just outran them in the second half. We still haven’t played a full 60 minutes this year, which is one of our main goals right now.”

Sophomore and leading scorer Brie Moran had another stellar game with four goals, and she kept Colgate within striking distance until the late second half run. Junior Ashley Didio and sophomore Meghan Lawler also played crucial roles, combining for six goals and an assist. Junior goalkeeper Sara Drexel earned yet another win, making seven saves. The Raiders are getting hot at exactly the right time and have currently won four out of their last five games while improving to 6-7 overall on the year. ‘Gate remains undefeated in the Patriot League at 4-0 and is one game up on both Lehigh and American, neither of whom has played the Raiders yet.

The Raiders, who have clinched a Patriot League tournament berth, will play their last regular season home game on Saturday, April 12, when Lehigh visits Tyler’s Field. The Raiders will honor seniors Jessica Van der Meulen and Lindsay Pittard before the game.

“Both Jess and Lindsay are very consistent and really good leaders,” first-year Liz Lan said. “It’s going to be very sad to see them leave. Hopefully we can celebrate their careers with a big win over Lehigh.”

If Colgate beats Lehigh and American loses to Holy Cross on Sunday, than the Raiders will have the home-field advantage throughout the Patriot League tournament, rendering the Raiders’ final regular season game at American moot.
