Playoffs in Sight in IM Flag Football

Intramural flag football came into full swing this past week, as play picked up in all the leagues, causing numerous teams to make surprise moves upwards and downwards in the standings.

Thus far, the story of the season in League A has been the 3-0 Phi Kappa Tau squad. Phi Tau swept through its competition this week, knocking off Theta Chi 14-7 on Wednesday, after a 14-7 exhibition win over Beta Theta Pi on Tuesday.

Delta Upsilon moved up to second place in the League standings after two wins over Theta Chi and the Brothers on Tuesday by a combined 60-21 margin. Senior Duncan Quirk, who recorded three sacks and a rare safety in Tuesday’s action, led DU.

The picture in League B is not as clear after the first two weeks of play.

After a tough loss on its first day of play to the Diabeatings, the Donkey Ranch defeated the ANL Pound R’s 63-27 and the Yo Mets 49-42 to move a half-game behind idle Phi Delta Theta.

A 21-12 loss to the ANL Pound R’s on Wednesday moved the 1-1 Diabeatings into third placed behind the aforementioned Donkey Ranch. League B is a toss-up at the end of this week, with Phi Delt, the Donkey Ranch and the Diabeatings still vying for positions. The teams stand at 2-0, 2-1 and 1-1 respectively.

League C is also still up in the air after two weeks of play.

151 High Octane moved into first place at 2-0 after a 28-21 surprise win over the favored Great Colgate Ballers. The Pig Slammers (1-0) remained idle this week, while Bishop Don and 1149 round out the League C cellar.

After a 35-21 victory over the Stifflers, the 2-0 Hard Hats sit atop League D at the end of Week Two. Curtis A was victorious over Curtis 2L to move to 1-0-1 on the season and secure second place as of Thursday morning. The Stifflers (0-1-1), Curtis 2L (0-1) and Link 148 (0-1) round out League C.

With the regular season winding down and the playoffs set to start within the next couple of weeks, every game will affect seeding and the standings in the two flag football tournaments. Next week looks to be one of the most exciting weeks in recent memory for Colgate Intramural Flag Football.
