Track Teams Fight With The Weather, Opponents

Last Saturday, the Raider men’s track team traveled to Annapolis, MD to compete in the Navy Invitational, but were slowed greatly by the inclement weather. The Raider women made the trek to Annapolis Saturday to take on the Midshipmen, while also making the short trip to Clinton to take on Hamilton College on Wednesday. The men’s team competed in a limited competition in Annapolis due to heavy rainfall, competing in only seven events against Navy, the University of Rhode Island and Rutgers. Running on a track that saw much of lane one flooded, junior Nate Rosenthal became Colgate’s top finisher, placing third in the 1,500m run in a time of 4:09:20. Sophomore Mike Hanlon took sixth in the same event for the Raiders in a time of 4:13.50.First-year Andy Holway continued to run well for the Raiders in the 400m, finishing in a time of 50.82 seconds despite tough conditions. Sophomore Alden Ellis earned fourth place honors in the long jump with a leap of 6.08m, while sophomore Scott DeRoo placed fourth in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:09.44.Over the weekend, the women’s team placed fourth at the Navy Invitational, beating out Patriot League foe American by 12 points. Sophomore Nicole Christoforo ran the 1,500m in a personal best time of 4:50.62, placing sixth. Christoforo’s time placed her 10th all-time on the Colgate record board. First-year Abby Chapman finished right behind Christoforo in seventh place, finishing in a time of 4:52.44. Sophomore Elizabeth Crowley also ran a personal best in the 1,500m with a time of 5:01.30.Sophomore Hannah Failing continued to run just as she did during the indoor season, in which she earned all-Patriot League honors, finishing in third place in the 5,000m run – the first time she had competed in that event. Failing ran a time of 17:59.70, ranking her third all-time in Colgate history. Classmate Meaghan McAnaney also competed in the 5,000m event, running in a time of 19:01.70.At Hamilton, the women’s team earned three first-place finishes and seven top-three finishes. Failing won the 800m run in a time of 2:20.22. First-year Sarah Miller placed first in the 1,500m run in a time of 5:14.58, her first win in an outdoor meet.Christoforo also captured first-place honors again, running a personal best time of 58.98 seconds in the 400m event. Christoforo also had another personal best on the day, placing second in the 200m dash in a time of 27.24 seconds.Junior Lisa Germain finished right behind Christoforo, finishing third with a time of 27:44. Germain also had another third-place finish on the day in the long jump with a leap of 5.26m. Junior Emily Thomson continued the strong showing of Colgate jumpers by finishing second in the high jump, clearing 4’11.75″. The men’s team will compete at the University of Pennsylvania this weekend, while the women will travel to Delaware for the Delaware Invitational.
