13 Beats of the Week – October 27

1. “Silvertongue” by Young the Giant

Happiness factor is off the charts. See the music video if you’re curious about the title.

2. “Lavender” by Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club’s brand new record is one of the greatest albums the world has seen in quite some time, and I can’t stop talking about it. Start with this track (and keep going).

3. “Pink + White” by Frank Ocean

With the lyrics “Up north’s getting cold soon,” this song is sadly perfect for right now.

4. “Bayonne” by Little Comets

British indie at its finest. Do not let their name dissuade you – I promise they are not a children’s band.

5. “LoveStoned/I Think She Knows” by Justin Timberlake

This has been in my head since Justin’s Netflix concert movie came out, which I spent way too much time watching. We all know the first part, but the back half of this track is way underappreciated.

6. “Binary Mind” by Ra Ra Riot

Attention all computer-science majors – this song will pick you up all the way from zero to one.

7. “Clearest Blue” by CHVRCHES

This one is super conducive to jumping around your room like a crazy person, thanks to its upbeat sound. Don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about.

8. “Give It Up” by Amos Lee

This guy is amazing, and I highly recommend listening to his music. If you need more approval than that, Ben Higgins of the Bachelor franchise is also a fan.

9. “Birds Do It’” by KONGOS

You can probably guess what this song is about. Four South African-American brothers bring the accordion into modern-alt rock, and it actually sounds amazing.

10. “This Song Is Not About a Girl” by Flume & Chet Faker

Whether or not its title is truthful is up to you for interpretation. The song is the result of an impressive collaboration between these two Australian musicians.

11. “Reverend” by Kings of Leon

Unfortunately their new album is a little underwhelming, but this song stands out. The guitar riff in the background adds extra depth that makes it hard to stop listening.

12. “I Wanna Be Your Lover” by Prince

Prince will never be forgotten, and this song is proof of his musical talent. Rest in peace, Prince.

13. “Dancin’ In Circles” by Lady Gaga

Her breakup from Taylor Kinney was obviously devastating, but we got a very revealing and musically surprising new record out of it.
