In an email sent Tuesday, Feb. 11 via Get Involved, Director of the Office of Student Involvement Paul Habernig announced that Jay Sean, a British singer and songwriter, will be the new 2025 Springfest headlining artist.
“The Office of Student Involvement is happy to share that we have secured a new artist for Springfest, despite the recent news of COIN’s breakup,” Habernig wrote.
This comes following the recent breakup of the band COIN due to the alleged misconduct of certain band members. Their disbandment forced OSI to quickly find a replacement.
Habernig explained to the Maroon-News how OSI was able to rapidly secure Jay Sean as the new artist.
“Jay Sean was suggested by the students in the fall during our original call for artists, so we are lucky that he was still available and touring and we were able to move so fast,” Habernig said. “The difficult part of this process was actually finding an artist on our list who was still available for the most popular day for university concerts across the northeast.”
In addition, the concert will feature artist Lisa Heller ’18, a Colgate alumna.
“[Heller] brings inspiration from alternative, indie, pop and rock, and fuses her favorite elements together,” Habernig said.
The concert will take place on Saturday, April 26. More details are to come as the event gets closer. Moving forward, OSI is encouraging students to submit proposals for events and activities during Springfest.
“We are ready to start the event planning process for student groups and organizations in order to embrace the spirit and excitement of Springfest at Colgate,” Habernig said.
