5 Minutes With Liz Malugen ’12

1. How’s your week going?

This is actually one of my more hectic weeks. I was in charge of bringing David Stollman to campus for a lecture tonight, and I’ve had several significant assignments.

2. What’s your thesis on?

My thesis is about the role of collective memory in Northern Ireland.

3. How’d you get interested in that?

I had the chance to spend last fall in Belfast, Northern Ireland. After living with the amazing people that make up that deeply divided society, I decided to pursue some lingering questions and observations through my thesis. Next semester, I’ll be continuing to build on the topic by looking at the role of ex-paramilitary members in the peace process.

4. Do you have any hobbies?

I’m training for my first half-marathon right now!

5. What are you looking forward to in the near future?

Yesterday, I found out that I was accepted into Teach For America. I will be teaching special education in Nashville, TN., and could not be more excited about the opportunity. I’m also really looking forward to eating too much with my family back home in St. Louis over Thanksgiving!
