SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Kali McMillan

“A picture is worth a thousand words.”

This famous saying is a great description for senior Kali McMillan’s opinion of photography. McMillan is a art major with a concentration in photography, something she has enjoyed her whole life.

“I really like capturing moments of people’s lives, the emotion in people’s faces, and the ability for one photo to tell an entire story,” McMillan said.

McMillan’s semester show was things in people’s rooms, which led her to the idea for her senior show.

For her senior portfolio, McMillan did a combination of portraits of people who have influenced her Colgate experience and still-life photographs of their favorite items.

“They wore their favorite clothes, as it creates a materialistic side to an emotional and personal project,” McMillan explained. “This was a great way to end my experiences at Colgate, as it has come full circle—from people I knew freshman year through senior year.”

After graduation, McMillan is looking at a myriad of options – from teaching English in the United States, doing an art residency, or traveling. McMillan’s senior portfolio show is on display in Little Hall from now through graduation.

“Go see it, it’s awesome!” McMillan said.
