On Sept. 11, Colgate University Events sent out an email announcing poet Amanda Gorman as the keynote speaker for Arts, Creativity and Innovation Weekend, which begins Apr. 5, 2024.

Previous keynote speakers include ballerina Misty Copeland, President Joe Biden and former Prime Minister of Israel Shimon Peres. Gorman was the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history when she spoke at President Biden’s inauguration in 2021.

“Gorman is a committed advocate for the environment, racial equality, and gender justice,” the email read. “Her activism and poetry have been featured on The Today Show, PBS Kids, and CBS This Morning, and in The New York Times, Vogue, and Essence.”

Arts, Creativity and Innovation Weekend is sponsored in part by the Kerschner Family Series Global Leaders. The event will be open to the public and through online streaming. More details can be found on the Colgate University website.
