Colgate University selected best-selling author and leading social commentator Michael Lewis to speak during Family Weekend. His address to the Colgate community is part of the 2025 Kerschner Family Global Leaders Series, according to an email announcement from University Events. Lewis is scheduled to speak on Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in Memorial Chapel, with his presentation also being livestreamed online simultaneously.
Lewis is the author of numerous acclaimed books, including “The Big Short,” “Moneyball” and “The Blind Side,” several of which have been adapted into Oscar-nominated films. His most recent book, “Going Infinite,” explores the rise and fall of failed cryptocurrency exchange FTX and its founder, Sam Bankman-Fried.
His works reach across genres, often uncovering corrupt systems and spotlighting overlooked individuals.
“A sharp observer of politics, finance and the evolution of American culture, Lewis combines insight and wit, making him one of today’s leading social commentators,” the email read.
Other notable works from Lewis include “The Premonition,” which follows public health experts during the COVID-19 pandemic; “The Fifth Risk,” which examines dysfunction in the U.S. government; “The Undoing Project,” which explores the groundbreaking work of psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky; and “Flash Boys,” which investigates high-frequency trading on Wall Street.
In addition to his books, Lewis hosts the podcast “Against the Rules,” a series examining public trust and fairness in American life. He holds a bachelor’s degree in art history from Princeton University and a master’s degree in economics from the London School of Economics.
