The Historically Black Colleges and Universities Executive Leadership Institute (HBCU ELI) at Clark Atlanta University selected Colgate University’s Dean of Students, Dorsey Spencer, as a part of its 2026 Community of Fellows.
HBCU ELI chooses fellows through a highly competitive, rigorous review process, identifying leaders with at least ten years of experience in higher education or a related field, at least three years in dean-level or equivalent leadership roles, demonstrated institutional impact, executive readiness and a clear commitment to the mission of HBCUs.
The program, now in its sixth year, includes over 40 executives who will participate in a structured learning experience, exploring how best to serve as future presidents and senior executives at minority-serving institutions. The 2026 curriculum will include a virtual orientation, an in-person residency, various seminars and a virtual celebration designed to help leaders like Spencer develop HBCU ELI’s 13 core competencies regarding leadership and HBCU-specific executive skills.
